Top 3 Ways to Find and Keep Talent in 2022

In the wake of the Great Resignation, businesses have been struggling to find qualified candidates to fill their open positions. Rocket City HR has identified the top 3 ways employers can attract and retain their staff:

  1. Flexible Working Arrangements

Due in part to COVID-19, one of the most attractive benefits sought after by candidates is a flexible work arrangement. Employers who offer flexibility in hours, hybrid work scheduling, or fully remote work will have far more candidates from which to choose. Some employers are redesigning their workload to give their workers a 30- or 32-hour workweek and allow them one additional day off each week. If you don’t offer as much flexibility as possible, your employees may seek out an employer who will.

Consider this: Work with your employees to identify the key responsibilities that need to be performed at the worksite. This will allow you to offer greater flexibility on where and when other tasks are performed. Bonus points for updating these changes to your job descriptions.

  1. Work That Matters

Today’s employees want to be able to perform work that matters. They are looking for organizations whose culture and values match their own personal values and make a difference in the world. When interviewing candidates, you’ll need to ascertain if they fit into your company culture. Now is also a good time to visit your organization’s values and see if you can better define them using short phrases. This will ensure that they evoke a clear picture of what you stand for and set you apart from other employers.

Consider this: Provide some volunteer time off to your employees so they can support the causes that are meaningful to them. Bonus points for organizing the volunteer activities and having senior leadership pitch in.

  1. Grow Your Own Talent

Due to rapidly changing technology and the retirement of the Baby Boomer generation, it is increasingly difficult to hire candidates who have all the right skills for today’s positions. The good news is you can “Grow Your Own Talent!” Employees who are provided growth and development opportunities are more likely to stay with their organization longer. Hiring based on attitude and aptitude, not current skillset, will yield long-term dividends. Remember to seek your employees’ input and include them in the development of their training and development plans.

Consider this: Designate a certain amount of funding for each employee to use toward their training and development. It is like a cafeteria plan for training and skills development. This will pay for itself in increased productivity and reduced turnover. Bonus points: interview an employee talking about this benefit and put it on your Careers page to help market your company to prospective candidates.
